Courses Available at the Club


Foundation Course:

The Foundation course is a 20 hour course that we can run over a weekend or 5 x 4hr lessons on club nights. This is the entry level into Amateur Radio.
The examination consists of 25 questions of which you must get 18 correct in order to gain a pass.
Once you have passed this exam you can get a licence to transmit on most of the available Amateur Bands.
During the course you will learn all the basics about how to tune and operate a radio with some hands on experience.
Costs
All we ask is that you become a member of the Society. The current membership fee is £25.00 per year and the RSGB charge an administration fee of £20.00 to cover their costs of producing the exam papers.

Intermediate Course:

The Intermediate course is a 30 hour course that is a bit more challenging than the Foundation course. (you must hold a pass certificate in the Foundation Course to be able to sit the Intermediate exam)
There is more hands on work and practical assessment to be undertaken, for example you will need to demonstrate that you have a basic knowledge of electronic components, you will also construct a simple circuit containing a battery, resistor, LED, lamp and a switch, you will need to demonstrate that you can measure voltages and currents in a simple circuit etc etc.
The exam consists of 45 questions of which you must get 27 correct to gain a pass. RSGB charge an administration fee of £25.00 to cover their costs of producing the exam papers.
